Terms, warranty, shipping and privacy

Written to be read. If anything here is unclear, email us before you book — we would rather explain it now than argue about it later.

Not legal advice

This page is a plain-English starting point written by the business owner, not a lawyer. Several values below are marked PLACEHOLDER and must be filled in. Consumer-protection and electronics-repair rules vary by state. Before taking real customers, have someone qualified read this.

Repair terms

1. Who we are

PLACEHOLDER, trading as Shipshape Repair (“we”, “us”). We are an independent repair service. We are not affiliated with, authorised by, or endorsed by Apple Inc., Samsung, or any device manufacturer. We hold no manufacturer certification and we do not claim one.

2. What you are authorising

By booking a repair you authorise us to open your device and carry out the repair you selected. You confirm that you own the device or have the owner’s permission, and that it is not reported lost or stolen.

3. Back up your data first

Repairs do not normally affect your data, and we do not wipe devices. But electronics fail unpredictably, and a phone that arrives damaged may not survive the repair. You are responsible for backing up your own data. We are not liable for data loss.

4. Payment

You pay an upfront amount when you book, covering the replacement part, return shipping and processing. The balance — our labor — is due after the repair passes testing and before we ship the device back. Payments are handled by Stripe. We never see or store your card details.

5. If we find additional damage

If, on inspection, we find damage that changes the scope or the price, we will stop, photograph it, and contact you with the options before doing any further work. You may approve the revised price, or ask us to return the device unrepaired. In that case you pay for any part already purchased plus return shipping, and nothing for labor.

6. If we cannot complete the repair

You pay no labor. We return the device at our cost and explain what we found. A part already purchased is not refundable if it has been fitted and removed.

7. Devices we will not accept

  • Devices with a swollen, puffy or physically damaged battery. These cannot legally be shipped.
  • Devices reported lost or stolen. We will not return these to the sender and may report them.
  • Devices needing board-level microsoldering or Face ID repair.

7b. Liquid damage is sold as an assessment, not a repair

Liquid damage cannot be priced honestly in advance. Corrosion keeps spreading after a device dries, so one that works today can fail next week, and one that looks dead can come back. What you are buying is a fixed-fee assessment: teardown, ultrasonic board clean, corrosion treatment, reassembly, testing, and a written report of what we found.

  • It is not a guaranteed fix. The fee is for the work and the report, payable whether or not the device recovers.
  • There is no warranty on a liquid-damaged device. We cannot stand behind a board we did not damage and cannot fully test.
  • Treat your data as already lost. Recover it separately before sending the device; we cannot promise it will power on again.

If the device needs board-level microsoldering, we will say so in the report and point you to someone who does that work. We do not.

8. Parts we use

We use high-quality aftermarket parts unless you select a different tier. On iPhones, Apple software displays a notice in Settings for any non-genuine screen or battery, and a non-genuine screen may lose True Tone. This is manufacturer software behaviour and cannot be removed. We will tell you which part was used in your repair.

9. Our liability

We take reasonable care of every device in our possession. If we lose or damage your device while it is with us, our total liability is capped at or the fair market value of the device, whichever is lower.

PLACEHOLDER — you must set this number. Pick a figure you could actually pay out tomorrow. For reference, third-party shipping insurance caps phones at roughly $1,000 per parcel and is void entirely without carrier signature confirmation, and default carrier coverage is only $100.

We are not liable for loss or damage in transit to us — that is between you and your carrier, which is why we ask you to insure the parcel and use signature confirmation.

10. Unclaimed devices

If the balance is unpaid and you do not respond for PLACEHOLDER (suggest 60) days after we notify you that the repair is complete, we will treat the device as abandoned, subject to the abandoned-property rules of your state. We will contact you at least three times before that point.

11. Cancellations and refunds

You can cancel for a full refund any time before we order your part. After that, the part cost is non-refundable but the labor portion is. Once a repair is complete, the warranty below is your remedy.

Warranty

Length
90 days from the date we ship your device back
Covers
Failure of the replacement part itself, and our workmanship on anything we disturbed during the repair
Excludes
New physical damage, liquid damage, work by anyone else afterwards, and faults unrelated to the part we replaced
How to claim
Email PLACEHOLDER with your order number and a description. If the fault is ours, we cover shipping both ways

This warranty is in addition to any rights you have under your state’s consumer protection law. Nothing here limits those rights.

Shipping policy

Sending your device to us

You arrange and pay for shipping to us. We strongly recommend insuring the parcel for the full value of the device and adding signature confirmation. Default carrier coverage is $100, and most phone insurance policies are void without a signature service.

US carriers classify a used phone as a restricted electronic device because of its lithium battery. It must travel by ground, the outside of the box must be marked “Restricted Electronic Device” and “Surface Transportation Only”, and it must be handed to a clerk rather than dropped in a collection box. Devices with swollen or damaged batteries cannot be shipped at all.

Sending it back to you

Return shipping is included in every price we quote. We ship with tracking, declared value and signature confirmation, and we email you the tracking number when it leaves. Someone must be available to sign.

Where we ship

United States only. We do not currently accept international repairs.

Our address

Please do not ship anything before booking a repair. Unexpected parcels have no order attached and we may not be able to identify the owner.

Privacy policy

What we collect

Your name, email address, phone number and shipping address; the device model, the repair you requested, and the IMEI or serial number; your description of the fault; and the photographs and notes we take during the repair.

What we deliberately do not collect

  • Your passcode is never stored in our system. Send it on paper in the box. We use it to test the device and we do not record it anywhere.
  • We never see your card details. Payments go directly to Stripe.
  • We do not browse your personal files. We open only what is needed to test the repair — camera, phone, settings, sensors.

Why we keep repair photos

To show you the condition your device arrived in and left in, to support warranty claims, and as evidence if a payment is disputed. We keep them for PLACEHOLDER (suggest 12 months) and then delete them. We will not publish a photo of your device publicly without asking you first.

Who we share it with

Only the services needed to run the repair: Stripe for payment, our email provider for order emails, and the shipping carrier for delivery. We do not sell your data and we do not run advertising trackers on this site.

Your choices

Email PLACEHOLDER to request a copy of what we hold about you, to correct it, or to have it deleted. We will keep the minimum record needed for tax and dispute purposes.

Children

This service is intended for customers aged 18 or over.
